Woosox Bully The Bulls And Win 6-2

By Darryl Harding Sr –

On a beautiful spring day, seemingly made for the game of baseball, the Worcester Redsox play their second of six against the Durham Bulls. Considering only two weeks ago there was a snowed out game, Woosox faithful revel in mid afternoon games because of school vacation week.

RHP Richard Fitts, 2.89 ERA, started off the day for the Heart of the Commonwealth. After a scoreless first inning Fitts unfortunately gave up a one run dinger to Kameron Misner. Battling back against RHP Joe Record, 9.53 ERA, Mark Conteras walked and worked his way around the bases to score on a sacrifice fly from Niko Kavadas, leaving the score tied at 1-1.

Remaining tied until Bulls starter was spelled by RHP Daniel Uceta who gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning leaving two men on board. Relinquishing the ball to RHP Nelson Alvarez, the Bulls managed to close the inning with the Woosox up 4-1.

Although wriggling his way out of the 5th Alvarez only ran into problems in the 6th allowing two runs and extending the Worcester lead to 6-1. Fitts completed the 6th with 1 run allowed o  4 hits with 5 strikeouts.

“We were outstanding… we walked one guy,” said Woosox manager Chad Tracy,”We did go ball one out of the pen a little bit today but at the end of the day we gave one free pass… which was huge.”

Relieved by RHP Chase Shugart, who pitched one scoreless inning, then RHP Justin Hagenman, who permitted a one run homer to Rob Brantly. The score now 6-2 RHP Luis Guerrero steps on the mound to successfully close out. Win goes to Fitts and the loss to Uceta.

Notable performance by Chase Meidroth going 2-5, 2 RBIs with a run and a stolen base. Woosox host another midday game tomorrow at 3:05 PM.
